Equifax Payment Services, Certegy, FIS

Customer service, process improvement, project management and implementation, culminating in Implementation Director

Payments operations and implementation

I began in May 1996 at Equifax Payment Services, the business that became Certegy and then FIS, and stayed until September 2011. My responsibilities grew through customer service, process improvement, project management and implementation. Implementation meant taking what a client had been promised and making it work in production, on schedule, with a team to train and support.

  • Implementation work spanning client onboarding, project delivery, training, quality assurance and vendor coordination.
  • As Implementation Director, directed the 102-person North American implementation organization through seven senior managers and managed the $12 million North American implementation budget.
  • Reduced client onboarding from five days to the same day.
  • Pinnacle Performance Award, Certegy (now FIS), 2004.

June 2012 to June 2017

Citi

AVP, AML Monitoring and Investigations · June 2012 to June 2017

AML monitoring and investigations

I joined Citi in June 2012 to lead AML investigative teams. The work was transaction monitoring, investigations, escalations and suspicious activity report drafting, with firm deadlines and quality standards. The story on my About page comes from this period.

  • Led AML investigative teams: transaction monitoring, investigations, escalations and suspicious activity report drafting.
  • Delivered quarterly BSA/USA PATRIOT Act/OFAC training and monthly leadership-development sessions.

June 2017 to April 2022

Citi

VP, Compliance Technology · June 2017 to April 2022

Compliance technology delivery

I moved from the investigators to the technology they relied on, leading global compliance technology delivery for anti-money-laundering. Knowing the operating teams first made the delivery work better.

  • Led global compliance technology delivery for anti-money-laundering, including case-management platform rationalization across AML Operations, Technology and Compliance: eight legacy case-management platforms retired across six international markets.
  • SOC 2 experience through compliance technology: report review, evidence gathering, audit responses and addressing findings.

Citibank N.A., Chief Risk Officer organization

Senior Vice President, Risk Management (Second Line of Defense) · April 2022 to May 2026 · CBNA risk segment

Second-line risk management

I led second-line challenge across operational, compliance, information, third-party and model risk for the CBNA risk segment. The work was hands-on as well as supervisory. My accountability covered the CBNA risk segment within Citi's enterprise framework.

  • Served as Controls Lead and Risk Segment Process Owner within Manager Control Assessment, Citi's enterprise risk and control self-assessment program, and as the segment's Model Inventory Lead and Regulation Lead.
  • Control design and rationalization, monitoring and testing standards, issue and corrective action plan governance, closure evidence, and reporting to CRO-level governance forums and segment risk committees.
  • For issues and corrective action plans within my CBNA risk-segment remit: zero reopens, April 2022 through May 2026.
  • Consolidated enterprise-common controls, authored testing scripts and established monitoring and testing standards adopted across the segment.
  • Developed control profiles for processes owned by the Chief Risk Officer, and built the segment's control-assessment process adherence function within four months.
  • Championed the adoption of bank-approved generative AI tools for rule-based control work.
